FIBROMYALGIA FUND RAISING

NO, we are not asking you for money, but telling you about why fund raising is necessary, who gives, how and why.

Why are funds needed for Fibromyalgia?

  • Research

Too many people with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are finding that the most commonly promoted therapies don't help nearly enough. Pain, fatigue and other symptoms often persist, which is a frustrating and sometimes devastating predicament. The pharmaceutical companies are not interested in FMS and CFS because there is no diagnostic marker and the physiological basis behind the many symptoms are not understood. These are the very reasons why large national charities look at "commissioning" drug trials to at least minimize symptoms until scientists come up with better solutions, even a "cure".

Research is long term and expensive, so donations from companies, other charities, individuals, bequests, as well as major fund raising concerts and events are needed. These types of activities can only be handled by large national Fibromyalgia charities who usually employ full time fund raising staff supported by volunteers and local support groups.

  • Support

Some people who have Fibromyalgia are suffering extreme financial hardship and require support to survive. They often need some direct help to ensure the sufferer is getting all the state benefits and carer support they need. This is especially critical if the sufferer has no family or close friends or is isolated.

Support needs may well be financial, but do not forget personal contact as well, even by telephone, letters and email if personal visits are not practical or possible, it all helps.

  • Starting a Support Group

Often the launching of a new  Fibromyalgia  support group starts to run up bills once it gets going and some income is needed, for more details read our pages
